Crazy Stuff Happening in the Beer World!

I am not sure if you guys have been following the recent silliness occurring in West Virginia, concerning a tax increase on beer. Apparently they are trying to get this beer tax (which will increase the price from $5.50 a barrel to $19.25 a barrel) to help pay for Substance abuse programs to help people with alcohol problems.

Now, I do not live in West Virginia, so I am not aware if there is any huge drinking problems there, but I don't see any good reason why you should have to punish responsible drinkers like that. Why should I have to pay more for beer because a few losers can't handle their drinking problem? Not fair!

Anyways, the debate has been going on for a week now...I will keep you posted as to whether or not it gets passed. I am hoping it doesn't, because imagine if other states passed similar bills? That would suck!

In other crazy beer news, if you are a fan of DrinkingStuff.com on facebook, you may have seen my recent posts about more people who can't handle their drinking problems.

First, I posted an article about a man who robbed a gas station for beer. This is not good behavior, people.

But wait...it gets worse!

I then read an article about this person who KILLED someone over some beer. Since when is beer something for people to get killed over? I smell foul play...there HAS to have been some other awful substance involved...please tell me!

Lastly, I read this article today about a this mom who drank a 40oz malt beverage and then scooted over to her child's elementary school and started swinging a sword at other children's parents. The woman was apparently trying to defend her child's honor. She wanted to confront the parents of another child who had been spitting on her kid the day before. But, who in their right mind would pound a GIANT beer, and then think it was OK to pretend to be a pirate and swing a sword at another human being? Once again, I smell foul play.

In my opinion, all the above stories involving beer MUST also have some other substances involved. I cannot believe the bad wrap beer is getting because of people who cannot act normal in society. CRAZINESS I tell you!

My Take on Beer Guts and Banning Beer Pong

First of all, with Valentine's Day coming VERY soon, I was astonished to come across this article discussing whether or not Man Boobs and Beer Guts were Turn-Off's or not. C'mon people - unless I can put a tap in that beer gut and get wasted off of it, those two man-features will NEVER be attractive.


In other Beer news, on Monday I read that Beer Pong is now banned on Huntington Beach in California. Now, I am a BIG fan of beer pong and am always up for a game, but the restaurant owners on this beach are saying the partying has gotten a little TOO out of control. I have never been to Huntington Beach...but I am not sure I want to now! Maybe it's time for those Huntington Beach drinkers to check out DrinkingStuff.com and stock up on beer pong gear for INSIDE their homes...

In other news, Goose Island announced an Eco-Friendly Beer that's packaging is much less wasteful that other beer packages are...and apparently the beer is "green" as well...well, not in color - you know what I mean! :) It's called "Green Line Pale Ale"

Today is the last day of 2009! I was happy to hear that taxi cabs in Hartford are FREE tonight! So there is absolutely no excuse for driving drunk tonight if you are out and about.

Me, I have decided to stay in where it's all warm and toasty and I don't have to pay for drinks (times are tough!). A few friends are coming over and I am hoping we won't be bothering our downstairs neighbors too much...but then again they can't get too angry - It's New Year's Eve!
